Elizabeth Betty Byars Crain, age 86, of Columbus, MS, passed away April 2, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be Saturday, April 8, 2017, at
2:00 PM
at Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Nix officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Crain was born January 11, 1931, in Columbus, MS, to the late John Wood and Ethel Austin Eubanks. She was a member of Soroptimist International of Columbus and the Southern Region where she held numerous offices and served on the board. She was Co-Chairman of the I Care Campaign for the Intensive Care Unit of Columbus Hospital. Mrs. Crain also served on the boards of the American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club of Columbus, and the House of Hope, where she served as Chairman of the Steering Committee. She was a charter member and treasurer of CLOPAC. Mrs. Crain was a member of New Covenant Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Eddie B. Byars and James Edward Crain, two sisters, four brothers, and grandson, Eddie B. Byars, III.
Survivors include her sons, Eddie Byars, Jr. of Columbus, MS, and Woodie Byars and his wife Jeanne of Beaumont, TX, daughter, Mary Jane Shields of Houston, TX, step sons, Mark Crain of Memphis, TN, and Jimmy Crain of Collierville, TN, step daughters, Lynn Crain Clark of Collierville, TN, and Debbie Crain Dixon of Germantown, TN, grandchildren, Elizabeth Byars of Atlanta, GA, Jon Byars of Columbus, MS, Katie Byars of Jackson, MS, Sunnye Shields of Houston, TX, and Shellye Shields and her husband Kyle Metcalf USCG of Houston, TX, and great grandchildren, AJ Jackson and Zoe Wimberly.
