Carl Wayne Rushing
August 11, 1939 — April 12, 2017
Mr. Rushing was born August 11, 1939, in Oktibbeha County, MS, to the late John and Rose Froshour Rushing. He was saved by Grace in the Church of God. Mr. Rushing served in the 8th Army Headquarters in San Francisco, CA, from 1958 - 1964. Carl married Joyce Rushing in 1959 and was blessed with five children. After moving back to Columbus, he found a job with Mills Morris Auto Parts until 1985 and then worked for Waters Truck and Tractor until his retirement in 2004.
Mr. Rushing loved and took pride in his job as much as he loved and took pride in his children. He had a special relationship with his sister Nettis's (Parker) children and they with him. He loved his gardens and tractor and ridin' and lyin' on the back roads with James. Hunting and fishing with family and friends and gilling his bounty brought him much content. Then sitting around a campfire telling stories, laughing and listening to George Jones and other simple joys. He frequently said staying married for 58 years was his greatest achievement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, G. G. Rushing, Tom Rushing, Johnny Rushing, and David Rushing, and sister, Nettie Parker.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce Rushing of Columbus, MS, sons, Mark Rushing and his wife Lisa, Scott Rushing and his wife Susie, daughters, Kim Rushing Ferraez, Valerie Rushing, and Rose Rushing Goodwin and her husband Gary, brother, Amos Rushing, sister, Margie McCain, grandchildren, Aaron Poitra, Brandon Rushing and his wife Susan, Carrie Rainwater, Jessie Gilliam and her husband Clay, JoJo Rushing and his wife Chelsea, Will Ferraez, Jack Ferraez and his wife April, Blakeney Clark, and Dillon Rainwater, and great greandchildren, Aiden Poitra, Blair Rushing, Cam Rushing, Rylee Rose Gilliam, Mirabella Ferraez, Elijah Ferraez, and Ava Kate Rushing.
