Mrs. Vera Alma Ables Davis, age 104, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Trinity Healthcare. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017 starting at 12:30 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Sonny McClellan officiating. Burial will be in Lone Oak Cemetery in Steens.
Affectionately called “MawMaw” by all who knew and loved her, Mrs. Davis was born January 31, 1913 in Prentiss County, MS. She was the last of ten children born to the late Jasper Sherman and Martha Della Hicks Ables. She was a member of the Caledonia Church of Christ. A homemaker in the true sense of the word, Mrs. Davis raised her children during the Depression. She loved her garden, her church family and her Lord and Savior. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, seven brothers, a grandson Hal Robison and her husband Hubert Oscar Davis.
She is survived by her son and daughter –in-law Bilbo and Dee Davis of Columbus and her daughters and sons –in-law Jeannie and Bo Diremann and Jerry and Chuck Gustavsen, all of Caledonia, MS, Joyce and Jimmy Simpson of Longview, MS and Carolyn Hicks of Steens, MS. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty –one great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Simpson, Andy Hicks, Mike Davis, Nick Robison, Bryan Gustavsen and Chris Robison. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Trinity Healthcare and Dr. Doyle Sumrall.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity or church .
