STANLEY HARPOLE
Stanley Long Harpole age 90, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Windsor Place Nursing & Rehab Center in Columbus. Services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Windle officiating, visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial with U.S. Army Honors, will follow at Houston City Cemetery Houston MS Saturday at 2:30 PM.
Mr. Harpole was born on Monday, May 10, 1926 in Starkville, MS to the late Thomas Carroll and Estella Elaine Long Harpole, and raised in Maben, MS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 7th Division and served during the Korean Conflict. He was deployed to Korea as a Corporal. While he was there he had the opportunity to serve with the 1st Marine Battalion as an engineer and the 187th Air Bourne while under the command of Colonel Tandy. He was a recipient of the Presidential Korean Citation.
After his military service, he came home to Columbus and worked at the Trailways Bus Company, Banks Hardware, and then established Harpole Insurance Agency. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, serving as deacon, and a longtime member of the choir, having a beautiful baritone voice. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Frankie Roselyn Weaver Harpole, his sister, Ellen Elaine Harpole Hewett, his brother, Thomas Tobias Harpole, and his son-in-law, Edgar Cox.
