Annelle Haskett

Mrs. Annelle Cooper Haskett, age 90, died Friday, May 26, 2017 at Trinity Healthcare in Columbus. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. The service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Temple officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The seventh of eight children, of the late John Samuel and Annie L. Hunt Cooper, Mrs. Haskett was born July 21, 1926 in Meridian, MS and graduated from Meridian High School in 1944. Shortly afterwards, she moved to Mobile, AL and went to work for a large shipping company in support of our effort during World War II. In June 1945, she married Cpl Tom L. Smith, USMC. In 1949 they moved to Columbus, where Mrs. Haskett worked, raised their six children and remained for the rest of her life. Her husband Tom, a longtime employee of Southern Bell, died in May, 1975. She later married Clayton Haskett, who died in September, 1998.

Mrs. Haskett was employed for many years at Ed’s Grill, the Mexican Kitchen, and several children’s nurseries, most notably Jack N’ Jill. Her favorite past times were assembling puzzles, word games , playing bingo, attending church services, going to gospel singings and traveling to visit family and friends. Most of all she enjoyed and looked forward to opening up her home and cooking for family and friends. You never left her table hungry. She will always be remembered as a sweet, soft-spoken southern lady, devoted and loving mother, grandmother and friend, who treasured and cherished her large family. Her endless love, sweet disposition and total unselfishness have always been and always will be a lifelong model for her family.

She was a longtime resident of Trinity Independent Living, Trinity Personal Care and later Trinity Health Care, where she enjoyed interacting with her many friends and assisting those less fortunate than she. In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was predeceased by one sister and all six brothers.

Mrs. Haskett is survived by her six children and their spouses, Tom L. Smith, Jr. and Alice of Goose Creek, SC; David W. Smith of Stafford, VA; Patricia and Steve Andrews of Columbus, Jackie L. Smith of Gonzales , LA; John W. and Sharion Smith of Florence, MS and Jerald L. and Margaret Smith of Columbus. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her sons and son-in-law Steve Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and the staff and nurses of Trinity Health Care Center.

Her family is eternally grateful to the staff of Trinity Health Care Center for loving our Mother as your own.
