Edward Gary Freda, age 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 25, 2017, at Noland Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL. A memorial service will be Saturday, July 29, 2017, at
5:00 PM
at Shaeffer's Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Curtis Bray will officiate the services and military honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Freda was born March 16, 1934, in Fitchburg, MA, to the late Rocco and Judith Meyette Freda. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 - 1972. Mr. Freda is a veteran of Vietnam and served on the USS Davis and USS Glover, and also served on river patrol. A list of his medals include the Antarctica Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Freda was a member of the VFW and Sheaffer's Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Freda of Columbus, MS, sons, Edward Gary Freda, Jr., and his wife Susie of El Paso, TX, and Daniel Paul Freda of Huntsville, AL, daughters, Pam Livingston of Fitchburg, MA, and Kathy Freda Doty and her husband Buff of Columbus, MS, brothers, Nicholas Freda and Ronald Freda, both of Fitchburg, MA, 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
