Mary Alyce Fort

Mary Alyce Fort passed away at her home in Columbus on July 25, 2017. She was born in Falls Church, VA on September 12, 1958 to Col. John and Alyce P. Fort.
Mary is survived by her son William J. Booth of Montevallo, AL, her mother Alyce, her brothers John (Mary) Fort, Richard Fort, Tom Fort and Robert Fort (Tara), her sister Gretchen Fort Akbay (Kunter) as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary grew up in Columbus and graduated from S. D. Lee High School. She attended the Matty Hersee School of Nursing in Meridian, MS. For over twenty-five years she worked at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. In her free time Mary enjoyed working in her garden, fishing and traveling.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Jeffrey Waldrep , celebrant, followed by a memorial service and burial at Mayhew Cemetery, Mayhew, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Veterans’ organization of the donor’s choice to enable Mary’s work to continue in spirit.
