Elma Ruth Lancaster Jones, age 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away August 1, 2017, at Windsor Place. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 5, 2017, at
2:00 PM
at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Melvin Mordecai officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will be from
12:00 PM
until the time of the service.
Mrs. Jones was born July 25, 1926, in Gordo, AL, to the late Olin and Martha Hall Lancaster. She was a resident of Windsor Place for a number of years. Mrs. Jones enjoyed cooking for her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie B. Jones, Sr., grandchildren, Christy Powell, Joshua Jones, and Chris Smith, great grandchild, Jaiden Thomas, brothers, Edward, Clifton, Earvin, Bill, and Truman Lancaster, sisters, Pauline Mullenix, Nell Coleman, Joann Eudy, sons-in-law, Kelly Smith and Howard Temple, and daughter-in-law, Susan Jones.
Survivors inlcude sons, Jerry Powell and his wife Marilyn, Johnnie B. Jones, Jr., and Joe Jones, daughters, Jeannie Smith and Janice Temple, grandchildren, Angel Whittington, Tiffany Dyer and her husband Jason, Johnnie Jones, III, Lenny Jones, Mallory Jones, and Breanna Temple, great grandchildren, Josh Jones, Kaden Jones, Karah Dyer, Duncan Whittington ,Peyton Dyer, and Taleigha Thomas, brother, Verdo Lancaster and his wife Maxine, sister, Louise Chain, numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason Dyer, Johnnie Jones, Kaden Jones, Duncan Whittington, Peyton Dyer, Arnold Sullivan, Danny Lancaster, and Johnny Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be the staffs of Windsor Place and Halcyon Hospice, and nephews.
