Mrs. Mary Ann Bates, age 80, of Columbus, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at her home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services, with Rev. Greg Renfrow officiating, will be Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home from 1:00 until 1:45 PM.
The daughter of the late Mr. Priest and Minnie Higginbothan Priest, Mrs. Bates was born May 17, 1937 in Shreveport, LA .She and her husband, the late Joe Alfred Bates, moved from Jackson in 1968 and opened Columbus Brace Clinic , which was in business from 1968 until 2001. Mrs. Bates retired in 2009 from Dial-A-Bus as a Dispatcher. She was longtime member of Steens First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son Joey Bates.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon Beatty, her son Robert Bates, both of Columbus and four grandchildren Natalie Beatty, Nathan Beatty, Joseph Bradley Bates and Alicia Bates.
Pallbearers will be John Beasley, Lee Younger, Tommy Garrett, Warren Conners, Larry Shelton, Randy Junkin, and Wendell Malone.
