Elizabeth Myrick Cockrell, 91, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Collegeview Personal Care Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Shawn Parker, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery.
The daughter of the late Tillman Thomas and Luna Elizabeth Echols Rasberry, Mrs. Cockrell was born January 17, 1926 in Flora, MS. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree from Mississippi State College for Women. After marrying her first husband Harvey Myrick, Jr., she taught science in the Columbus City Schools for thirty years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of Les Amies Study Club for over fifty years, Galaxy Garden Club and a charter member of Kappa Kappa Iota Teachers’ sorority, having served and held many offices in each of these organizations. She was also a former Pink Lady at Baptist Memorial Hospital and Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center and a former Girl Scout leader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of twenty seven years Harvey Myrick, Jr., her second husband of thirty years Paul Cockrell, a step-daughter Helen Cockrell Sams Parker and her five brothers Curtis, Ernest, Willie Ray, Robert and Ralph Rasberry.
She is survived by her son Harvey Myrick, III of Columbus, daughters Melody Myrick of New York City, and Susie Wright (Nathan) of Germantown, TN, and a step-daughter Paulette Morrow (Chuck) of Sebastopol, MS and her sister Jane Rasberry Glass of Flora, MS. She is also survived by her granddaughter Dawn Elizabeth Myrick Field and her husband Walter and her two great-granddaughters Grace and Addison Field and her step-grandchildren Janet Morrow, Gary Morrow, Stephanie Sams Weber, Sharon Sams Chandler and Stacie Sams Bauman.
Pallbearers will be Larry Rainey, Carey Upton, Dr. Eddie Bozeman, Ricky Cockrell, Sam Bray, Jim Bigelow, Bob Boland, Bob Taylor and Bobby Patrick.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the love and care shown to Mrs. Cockrell by Mrs. Carolyn Reed and all of the Staff at Collegeview Personal Care Home and Camellia Hospice and staff.
