March 9, 1924 — October 5, 2017

Vivian Landrum Miles age 93 passed away October 5, 2017 at her residence in Columbus surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be held Monday October 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gunter Peel College Street Chapel; with Rev. Ben Yarber officiating; burial will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Miles was born on March 9, 1924 in Jones County, Mississippi to Annie Rose and Warren C. Landrum. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband P.J. “Pat” Miles,  her beloved son; Bubba, her brother Preston Landrum, her sisters, Dola, Elsie, Mabel, and Hulene, and her nephew Gary McWhorter.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus, and a 1942 graduate of Sand Hill High School in Sand Hill MS. Vivian loved life to the fullest but her greatest love was her family. She and Pat had so many wonderful trips, dances, and family and friend get togethers. She and Pat were avid Mississippi State football fans, attending home games. Of course, every summer night was spent at Propst Park watching Bubba play baseball. Friday nights were spent watching football games at the Magnolia Bowl, or wherever the games were played. There was not a dance at the old Trotter Convention Center that she would not chaperone keeping and eye on Sherry.

Vivian greatest passion as a hobby was playing bridge. She earned her life masters in duplicate bridge and anyone can attest that she was an excellent player, delighting in both offense and defensive play. Her second favorite endeavor was gardening raising outdoor and indoor flowers.

Survivors include:

Her devoted daughter, Sherry Miles Whitehead (Lee) of Columbus, Daughter-in-law Terri Miles, 3 grandchildren, Beth Otto (Dean), Patrick Miles, and Storm Miles, 2 great grandchildren, Grace and Will Otto. Her faithful niece and nephew Janet Shotts, and Randy McWhorter and a host of other nieces and nephews.
