Mrs. Elizabeth V. Parker, age 86, died Saturday October 28, 2017 at her home in Columbus. Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel, College Street location. Visitation will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Services will follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Gunter Peel with Dr. Robert W. Parker officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery.
The daughter of the late Carl and Clara Berrier Voss, Mrs. Parker was born April 16, 1931 in El Paso, TX. She served as a lab technician in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) during the Korean Conflict, and it was during this time that she met her future husband, Jimmy W. Parker, who was also in the Army. Mrs. Parker was a graduate of the School of Nursing at MS State College for Women and worked for some years at Golden Triangle Regional Hospital, now Baptist Memorial. She retired from the Lowndes County Health Department as a home health care nurse in 2001. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Jimmy W. Parker.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law J. Michael and Sarah Parker of Grass Valley, CA and Dr. Robert W. and Lisa Parker of Memphis, TN and her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Ken Oglesbee of Columbus, MS and her sister Susan Reneau of Albany, CA. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren Charles Parker, Matthew Parker (Mary), Daniel Parker (Haley), Jonathan Parker ( Samantha), Christyn Parker, Michaela Oglesbee Davis (Brady), Mariah Oglesbee, Monica Oglesbee, and Jon Parker Oglesbee and three great grandchildren Caroline, Jack and Lucas Parker and a fourth great grandchild due very soon.
