Doris Francis Gerber of Columbus, MS passed away Nov 10th at The Arrington at Plantation Pointe. Born July 9, 1922 in Cranford, NJ, she was the daughter of Howard and Anna Francis. She spent most of her life in Bloomfield NJ, Scotch Plains NJ, and then retired in Palm City, FL. In 2007, she moved to Columbus MS with her husband and son’s family.
She was a homemaker, enjoyed golf, gardening, cooking, and decorating. She modeled for Bambergers (Macy’s) in 1937 and continued to have a love for fashion. She was a member of the Montgomery Presbyterian Church, NJ.
She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1941. She married the love of her life in 1942. She was married 67 years. She was predeceased by her husband Warren E. Gerber Sr., her son Gary L Gerber, her brothers Howard, Edward and Walter Francis. She is survived by her daughter Gayle Peterson (Evan) of Nebo, NC, son Chip Gerber (Maureen) of Columbus, MS, eight grandchildren Doris, Gary, Richard, Warren, Christopher, Cory, Hillary, Layne, ten great-grandchildren Krissie, Cheryl Anne, Jonathan, Amanda, Richard, Noah, Olivia, Taylor, Ella and Caroline and three great-great grandchildren Andrew, Jason, Elise. She was proud to have had five generations in one town. She is also survived by her caretaker and dear friend, Thomasine Mosley.
There will be a Memorial Service Saturday December 2 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church in Columbus and a celebration of her life from 12-2pm at Venue 208, 208 5th South, Columbus, MS. We would like to thank the staff at the Arrington for being so compassionate and caring to Doris during her time there.
