Steve Spencer

William Stephen “Steve " Spencer, age 65, died Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Crematory, 2nd Avenue North.  Visitation will be Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Atrium of Annunciation Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 2:00 PM at Annunciation with Father Jeffrey Waldrep, Celebrant.  Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery.

The son of the late Ed M. and Eloise Williams Spencer, Steve was born May 8, 1952 in Columbus. He graduated from Stephen D. Lee High School and was a communicant of Annunciation Catholic Church. He retired from Golden Triangle Railroad/Weyerhaeuser and CF Rail Systems after twenty eight years  as a railroad maintenance technician.  He was also previously  employed by the Columbus and Greenville Railroad. He was a big fan of all MSU sports and enjoyed working in his yard. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Marietta Spencer Morrison.

He is survived by his wife Rosalie Wolcott Spencer, his daughters and son-in-law Laura and Nick Harmon and Kate Spencer (Brandon Williams) and his grandchildren Caraline Harmon, Gabe Williams and Sam Jones, all of Columbus. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Ed and Dorothy Spencer of Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Larry Davis, Kenny Crenshaw, Davis Baker, Patrick Spencer, John Spencer and Will Spencer. Honorary pallbearers will be past employees of Golden Triangle Railroad – Ricky Crowder, Bill Black, Dondee Mullin, Kathy Baker, George Johnson, Eddie Scott, Patsy Gorum, Gilbert Petty, Benjy Jones and Mitch Cockrell. Other honorary pallbearers will be Virgil and Vicki Kimbrell, Frank Upton, Charlie Powell, and Antonio Stewart.

The Spencer family would like to give special thanks to the Staffs of Baptist Hospice and BMH Infusion Center; Dr. Alnas and staff and the Homebound Ministry of Annunciation Catholic Church.
