Mrs. Howard was born June 23, 1931, in Louisville, MS, to the late Melvin and Lillie Mae McCain Hemphill. She was a graduate of Mississippi University For Women. Mrs. Howard retired as the Lowndes County Home Economist for the Mississippi State Extension Service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she enjoyed volunteering with Love-in-Deed, and she was also a member of the Pilot Club. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Nelson Howard, Sr., brother, Billy Hemphill, sister, Louise Hemphill, and daughter-in-law, Vicki Howard.
Survivors include her sons, Lewis Nelson "Rusty" Howard, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Barry Howard of Columbus, MS, brother, Larry Hemphill of Louisville, MS, sister, Ann Etheridge of Louisville, MS, grandchildren, John Howard, Ellie Howard, Leah Howard, and Emily Howard, and caregivers, Sanfo Gardner, Bernetta Gardner, and Debra Davis.
Pallbearers will be Robert Woods, David Etheridge, John Prevost, Ed Lott, Russell Brown, and Roger James.
