William Robert "Bill" Horton, Jr., age 77, of Columbus, MS , formerly of Prattville, AL, passed away January 7, 2018, at Windsor Place . Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Vistation will be from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory College St. location

. Bill was born February 5, 1940, in Columbus, MS , to the late William Robert and Sarah Smith Horton, Sr. He graduated from S. D. Lee High School in 1959 and then received an associate degree from East Mississippi Community College . After serving in the United States Navy, Bill was employed by Pan American Petroleum in the geophysics division. Bill had a large influence on many young people while serving at the Methodist Children's Home in Jackson, MS . Before retiring, Bill worked with the United States Department of Defense for many years.

Survivors include his sister, Dorothy Horton Carpenter of Knoxville, TN, brother, Jerry Horton and his wife Jan of Columbus, MS, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the S. D. Lee High School Class of 1959.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
