Friday January 26th, 2018, Herbert Gene Junkin, age 84, passed away at the home which he built and raised his family.  Mr. Junkin was a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with visitation at 10:00 am before the service.

Dr. Bill Hurt officiating; Rev. David Honeycutt and Rev. David Grisham assisting. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Herbert was born on July 6, 1933 in Pickens County Alabama to the late Johnny Melvin Junkin and Mattie Lou Howard Junkin. He lived in Columbus most of his life and graduated from New Hope High School in 1953. After serving his country in the United States Army, Herbert returned to Columbus and worked for Brislin Heating and Air for 37 years. Herbert gave himself completely to the Lord, his family, his church and his friends. He enjoyed gardening and always shared fresh vegetables with everyone. He was also an avid deer hunter. He will be extremely missed and was truly loved by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his brother, Marshall Eugene Junkin, and his sisters, Mozelle Shackleford Orr and Shelby Jean Sloan. Herbert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine Walker Junkin, his daughter, Rita Junkin Meyers (Jeff) of Mount Pleasant, SC , his son, Johnny Melvin Junkin (Vicky) of Columbus, MS, his grandchildren, Joshua, Adam and Will Meyers and Wesley Cowell, two step-grandchildren and five step great grandchildren, his sister, Mavis Junkin Harris, and a number of nieces and nephews.
