Dr. Selden Lambert

September 15, 1940 — February 5, 2018

  1. SELDEN LAMBERT

Dr. Selden Elizabeth Tate Lambert was called home to our Heavenly Father on February 5, 2018. Services will be held Sunday February 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Shaeffer’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Bray officiating; burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.

Selden was born on September 15, 1940 in Greenville, South Carolina to James John Smith and Elizabeth Selden Tate Smith.

Selden married Charles Henry Lambert, Sr on September 14, 1957, and together they had sons Charles (Chuck) Henry Lambert, Jr and Jeremiah Martin Lambert.

Dr. Lambert was one of the first female police officers for the City of Columbus. She continued to be the eyes and ears for the law well after her retirement.

She was a lifelong scholar. Dr. Lambert graduated with her bachelors degree from Auburn University, continued to the Mississippi University for Women to obtain her Masters Degree, and then lastly to the Mississippi State University, where she earned her Ph.D in clinical psychology in 1993.

Selden was an advocate and supporter of the Columbus Humane Society, often bringing home cats and dogs to foster, and more often, adopt.

She realized a lifelong dream of being a published author, when her book “Yellow Ribbon Murders” was published in 2015.

She was a proud member and founder of Studio 206, her beloved art studio created by her and her lovely friends.

Selden’s love of art was unmatched. Her talent surpassed mundane and ordinary. She made you think and explore and expand your vision to see her imagination come to life.

We were blessed to have learned many valuable lessons from Selden. Never pass up an abandoned hubcap in the gutter. Do not leave the 8 foot long piece of driftwood behind while boating the Tenn-Tomm. Always keep scrap wire. Don’t throw those empty glass bottles away! She would those discarded items into the most beautiful pieces of art. As strange as it was to come to a halt along Hwy. 45 to grab a rusted muffler, you couldn’t wait to see what it would be transformed into.

Selden was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lambert, Sr.

She is survived by sons, Charles (Chuck) Lambert Jr and Jeremiah Martin (Marty) Lambert, daughter in law Tammy Lambert, granddaughter Selden (Shelley) Lambert Bryant and husband Michael Bryant, grandson Brandon Maddox and wife Misty Maddox, great granddaughters Frankie, Brooke and Carleigh, great grandson Henry, and great-great granddaughter October.

Also survived by friends of Studio 206, friend Bill Ledbetter and puppies Rocky and Sophia, and cat Amos.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bryant, Brandon Maddox and the men of Shaeffer’s Chapel.
