Sydney Thweatt, Jr.

Sydney L. Thweatt, Jr., 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Syd L. Thweatt, Sr. and Mary Sue Goolsby Thweatt. He is survived by his brother, Doug Thweatt of Sarasota, FL, and his son, Sydney L. Thweatt III of Santa Rosa, CA.

Syd was born April 12, 1946, in Columbus, MS and graduated from S. D. Lee High School in 1964. He attended East Mississippi Community College on a baseball scholarship and then graduated from Delta State University. He was an Artillery Officer in the U. S. Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1970.

His career as an independent furniture representative spanned over 40 years, and both his humor and wit contributed to his ability to sell ice to Eskimos. Syd loved baseball not only as a player but also as a fan. In 2015 he was inducted into the East Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame for his participation in their 1965 State Championship. As a retiree, Syd worked at Brooks Brothers where his love of a great suit and his gift of gab were a perfect fit.

A memorial service was held in the chapel of Centenary United Methodist Church in Richmond, VA, on Friday, February 2, 2018. Syd will be greatly missed by his family and friends
