Joyce Marie Dettman Chaltry, age 82, of Columbus, MS, passed away March 14, 2018, at Trinity Healthcare. A visitation will be Saturday , March 17, 2018, at 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel College Street location.
Mrs. Chaltry was born July 13, 1935, in Menominee, MI, to the late Walter William and Cecile Victoria Delgoffe Dettman. When she was a freshman in high school, she met the love of her life, Michael Joseph Chaltry, Jr.. They married on June 23,1956 and they had four children. She was a loving mother and devoted Air Force wife of 26 years. When they moved to Columbus AFB, Mrs. Chaltry began her career with the Army Air Force Exchange Services. She retired in 1997 after 20 years of service. Upon her retirement, she began the next chapter of her life as a Volunteer. She joined the Pink Ladies at Baptist Memorial Hospital and was a member of RSVP where she put her knitting skills to good use making scarves for school children. She thoroughly enjoyed volunteering and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. She had a big heart, a contagious laugh, and the ability to make the best of any situation. She instantly loved her "in-law" children and treated them as her own the minute they were part of the family.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Joseph Chaltry, III, and his wife Teresa of Kathaleen, GA, and Timothy William Chaltry and his wife Bonnie of Columbus, MS, daughters, Mary Beth Williams and her husband Richard of Meridian, MS, and Colleen Anne Reyes and her husband Art of Steens, MS. Grandchildren, Jason Chaltry, Andrew (Tara) Chaltry, Stephen Chaltry, Stephanie (Cory) Long, Derek (Amanda) Chaltry, Jessica (Hank) Lewis, Troy Williams, Ian Reyes, James Reyes, Hannah Reyes and Joshua Reyes. She was also very proud of her eight great grandchildren.
