Edna Hudspeth Smith, age 88, died Tuesday, April 03, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. Services will be held Friday, April 06, 2018 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, April 06, 2018 from 12:30 PM until service time at the church.
Mrs. Smith was born on Sunday, January 19, 1930 in Craig Springs, MS to the late Robert A. and Lerlene Moorehead Hudspeth. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Believers Bible Class and volunteered many years for the “Love In Deed” ministry program, She graduated salutatorian from Brooksville High School and attended Draughns Business College in Jackson, MS. Her work history included MS Veternarian, Columbus Air Force Base, Lowndes County Tax Office, and George W. Smith Steel Buildings. She was a member of the Altrusa Club, and the Home and Garden Club, and enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking for her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne Hudspeth, Joe Hudspeth, and Clifton Hudspeth.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years George W. Smith, Columbus; Daughters: Anne Marie Trawick (Bill), Jackson, WY and Lisa Carol Smith, Washington, DC; Sons: George E. Smith (Wanda), Pelham, AL and Stephen K. Smith (Janet), Birmingham, AL; Sisters: Kathryn H. Rhett, Columbus, MS and Martha H. Brown, Columbus, MS; Grandchildren: Trent Trawick (Sarah), Jared Trawick (Ashley), Madison Smith and Ashleigh Smith; Great-Grandchildren: Wyatt Trawick, Walker Trawick and Trever Trawick.
The Pallbearers will be: Trent Trawick, Jared Trawick, Royce Hudspeth, Bill Hudspeth, Wythe Rhett, and Robert Rhett. The Honorary Pallbearers will be: Carl Edwards, Jerry Smith, Bill Trawick , Glenn Lautzenhiser, Bobby Patrick, Doug Moulds, Steve Wallace, Robert L. Brown and Bob Ward
