Gracie Lollar Champion

GRACIE CHAMPION – Gracie Deason Lollar Champion, age 86, of Columbus, MS, passed away April 9, 2018 , at Trinity Healthcare.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Lammons officiating and Rev. Ralph Windle assisting.  The interment will immediately follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until the time of the service at Mt. Zion.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory College St. location is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Champion was born July 10, 1931, in Pickens County, AL, to the late Will David and Dora Perkins Deason.  She was a graduate of New Hope High School and worked as an insurance representative at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home for many years.  Mrs. Champion was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was honored to be a military wife.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William L. “Bill” Lollar and Owen P. Champion, sister, Vaudine Burns, brothers, Vadus Deason, Carlus Deason, and Freeman Deason, and nephews, Jimmy W. Deason and James “Buddy” Burns.

Survivors include special nieces, Linda Burns, Eva Jadzinski, Nancy Boyd, and Barbaranne Deason, a host of nieces and nephews, and granddaughter, Susie Champion.

Pallbearers will be Clifton Bishop, Rodney Cosby, Frank Jadzinski, Keilan W. Deason, Ray Crane, and Hubert Perkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ladies “Joy” Sunday School Class at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Dr. Michael Duckworth, and Dr. Doyle Sumrall.
