Melanie Suzanne Mccoy

Melanie Suzanne McCoy, age 56, died Monday, April 23, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Crematory, 2nd Avenue North location.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Memorial Gunter Peel, 2nd Ave. North location beginning at 2:00 PM. The memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Todd Matocha, will follow at 3:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery.

The daughter of the late Mark Sheridan McCoy and Edna Mae Hanks McCoy, Melanie was born November 8, 1961 in Columbus. She was a graduate of Heritage Academy and a member of First Baptist Church. She also attended MS State University and the University of MS. She retired in 2017 as Director of E911 after over twenty five years of employment and was one of the first to be hired by the Board of Commissioners. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Otis Brewer  and Edna Mae Myers Hanks of Jackson, her paternal grandparents  Mark McCoy and  Gladys Cade McCoy Seitz of Crawford, MS, her aunt Mary Katherine Hanks Durham and her aunt and uncle Sherry and Joe Alford.

She is survived by her mother Edna Mae McCoy, her son Mark McCoy, and cousin Mary Katherine Williams (Dennis Ming), all of Columbus. She is also survived by other cousins Michael Seay, II (Cindy) of Stafford, VA, Sonja “Ree” Seay (George) of Manvel, TX and Simone “Marie” Coburn (Rodney) of Pflugerville, TX.
