Roger Dale Harper, age 56, died Thursday, April 26, 2018 at his home in Columbus. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Avenue North location. Visitation was Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel, College Street location. Services will be today, Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Gunter Peel, College Street location, with Dave Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The son of the late Herman Oscar and Mary Thompson Harper, Roger was born May 8, 1961 in Columbus. He was employed in retail sales of guns and all types of sporting goods most of his life at several businesses, and last worked for Gary’s Pawn and Gun. Scouting was his passion. He was a Boy Scout as a youth. Later he served as Cub Master for Pack 1, Cub Scouts, Assistant Scout Master, Boy Scouts Troops 1 and 4, and as District Commissioner for the Pushmataha Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. He loved hunting, fishing and Nascar and was an avid fan of MSU and New Orleans Saints football teams. He also loved his dogs and cats. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Ray Harper.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife of thirty six and one-half years Nancy Allen Harper, son Tyler Harper and brother and sister-in-law Lamar and Loretta Harper, all of Columbus. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Libby Harper of Ocean Springs, MS, four nieces and one nephew.
Pallbearers will be Joe Gibson, Tim Beatty, Pete Martin, Greg Weir, Eric Ely, and Michael Tate.
