Thaxter Allen Porter, age 72, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 10, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be Monday, May 14, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Billy Little officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 14, 2018, from 1:00 - 1:45 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 2nd Ave. location.
Mr. Porter was born August 28, 1945, in Columbus, MS, to the late Walter Verner and Wilma Robertson Porter. He retired from the Columbus Fire Department in 1986. Mr. Porter enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Letha Kay McCullough Porter.
Survivors include his daughters, Laura Hope of Columbus, MS, and Barbara Parks and her husband Jim of Gulf Shores, AL, brothers, Stephen Porter of Monroe, GA, and Jerry Porter of Columbus, MS, sisters, Maxine Sullivan of Columbus, MS, Emily Bowen of Columbus, MS, Evelyn Gore of Columbus, MS, Shelia Stanford of Baton Rouge, LA, and Sharron Polozola of Melville, LA, grandchildren, Allen Hope, Heather Henley, Drew White, and Kathryn White, and 5 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Allen Hope, David Henley, Jim Parks, Jason Bowen, Buddy McCullough, and Tommy McCullough. Honorary pallbearers will be the Columbus Fire and Rescue.
