Olean Salley

Mrs. Olean George Salley, age 88, formerly of Columbus, died June 5, 2018 at her residence in West Point, MS. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Avenue North. Visitation will be Friday, June 8, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home, 2nd Avenue North. Services will be Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 AM in Memorial Chapel with Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Vaughn Cemetery.

The daughter of the late Newton Evans and Willie Mae West George, Mrs. Salley was born April 22, 1930 in Columbus, MS. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from MSCW and was employed in the Office of Religious Activities. She received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Ms State University and served as Director of Outreach in Columbus for a number of years. She also served as secretary at Calvary Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Canaan Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers Edward Oscar, William Lloyd and Lubie Evans George.

Mrs. Salley is survived by her sister Louise Pate of West Point, MS , her nieces Doris Mixon (Henry), Denene Carter (Reid), and her nephews Steve Pate (Vicki), Stanley Pate (Doris), Ricky Pate, Randy Pate (Joyce) and Douglas George (Debra).

Pallbearers will be Steve Pate, Stanley Pate, Ricky Pate, Randy Pate, Douglas George and Colby Thomason. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Mixon, Reid Carter, Dr. Brett Brown, Dr. Michael Duckworth and the staff of Baptist Hospice.
