CECIL BERRY

Cecil Fay Berry age 81, died Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Services will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Ethelsville Baptist Church with Rev. Mel Howton officiating, burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:00 noon until service time at the church.

Mr. Berry was born on Tuesday, September 15, 1936 in Monroe County, MS to the late Thomas Edward and Ollie Ree Sanders Berry. He was a member of Ethelsville Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran having served at Ft. Benning, GA and the Mississippi National Guard in the 1960’s. He was a retired firefighter after 20 years of service with the City of Columbus Fire Department. Mr. Berry along with his late brother-in-law Shaden Whitten operated a landscaping business on their off days from the fire department. After retirement from the fire department he was a custodian at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and later retired as a caretaker for the State of Mississippi at Lake Lowndes State Park. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Berry, his brother Clarence Berry, his father-in-law, D.C. Jaynes, and his mother-in-law Corrine Jaynes of Ethelsville, AL.
