Terry Lane Martin passed away after a short illness, Sunday July 29, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus. A memorial service will be held Wednesday August 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker and Rev. Bobby Sanderson officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Terry was born on March 17, 1947 in Lancaster, PA to Reverend Edward William (Eddie) Martin, and Evelyn Rhodes Martin. Mr. Martin graduated from Manheim Township High School and continued his education at Mississippi College, earning a general business BS degree. He met his bride, Lydia, at Mississippi College , and married her in 1969. They enjoyed almost 49 years of life together. Terry loved his family with a fervor that will never die! He is affectionately known by his grandchildren as Papa T and loved for his constant presence in their lives, unique sense of humor, side-coaching at their games, and his fully stocked candy drawer. Terry was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus . He loved to sing and sang in the adult choir for over 30 years. His favorite choral participation was in the “Men of Praise Group” in which he was first tenor. How we smile as we remember the many ways he has left his stamp on our lives! Humor, acts of service, time, and of course music flowed out of him. He ran errands on Saturday mornings in his old pick up truck with Holly sitting next to him, singing and teaching her all the lyrics to the old hymn, “When We All Get to Heaven.” He often played beautiful worship music in the house and would sing every word. It was his language in life and his connection to the Lord. To know Terry was to be impacted by him. Our hearts remember well how much he loved his family and the Lord. He will be greatly missed.
