Mary Emma Elliot Hamiter, 85, died Monday, August 06, 2018 at her residence in Columbus, MS. Services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 2nd Ave. N. Location with Rev. Jimmy Ray officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory 2nd Ave. North Location is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hamiter was born on Thursday, September 29, 1932 in Boligee, AL to the late Emma Mae Hicks and Calvin Edward Elliot. She attended McBee Baptist Church and retired from Seminole Manufacturing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Charles Hamiter, Sr., her brothers, Howard, Ward, and James Elliot, sister Barbara Payne, and grandson, Joey Hamiter.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Hamiter of Columbus, MS and Lester Hamiter of Buhl, AL; sister, Sue Burford of Tuscaloosa, Al; brother, William "Bill" Elliot of Eutaw, AL; two grandsons, Andrew Hamiter of Huntsville, AL and Lester Hamiter of Tuscaloosa, AL; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Hamiter, Lester Hamiter, Kenny Younger, Jason McGee, Jesse Greenlaw, and Wayne Bryant.
