Virginia Howton

Virginia Lee Howton, age 87, died Monday, September 3, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – East, Memphis, TN. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home and Crematory, 2nd Avenue North location. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1:00 PM at New Salem Baptist Church with Revs. Mel Howton and Bill Warren officiating.

One of five children of the late Harry w. and Kathryn Whitmore Lee, Mrs. Howton was born September 14, 1930 in Rogersville, TN. She was a Civil Service employee and worked at Naval Air Station and Langley Air Force Base, both in Newport News, VA and the Atlanta Army Depot,  Atlanta, GA. She also served as Command Secretary to the Commanding General, Third Army, Fort McPherson, GA. She attended Living Faith Tabernacle Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Harry W. Lee, Jr. and sister-in-law Jean Stone.

She is survived by her husband Harold G. Howton of Caledonia, MS, her sons Everett Parrish (Karen) of Senoia, GA and Bruce Parrish of Lynchburg, VA, and daughters Deborah Parrish Gregory (Bill) of Stockbridge, GA and Dr. Melanie Howton Gruner (Dale) of Lynchburg, VA, step-sons Harold G. Howton, Jr of Talapoosa, GA and Alan Wayne Howton of Duluth, GA and step-daughter Janet Howton Warren (Bill) of Douglasville, GA. She is also survived by her brothers Jimmy Stone and Bobby Lee (Shirley), both of North Carolina and her sister Bonnie Rogers (Jerry) of Newport News, VA. , several grand and great-grand children.
