William “Bill” Samaras, 86, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born in Urbana, Illinois, October, 22, 1931, to George Arthur and Edna Samaras. Bill spent his childhood years in Hoopeston and would later volunteer for military service in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On December 7, 1952, he married the love of his life, Patsy Law, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Bill worked as a field representative for motor manufacturing companies, which brought him to Columbus, where he retired and made his home. After retirement, his love for landscaping led him to work as a groundskeeper for the Mississippi University for Women, where he was loved by all who were lucky enough to meet him. He was also a member of the Assembly of God Church in Columbus. His laughter and love will be missed by many, especially his family. He is survived by wife of 65 years, Patsy Law Samaras; three children, Victoria Spitler of Columbus, Tracinda Blakey and her husband, Daryl of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Chris Samaras of Coarsegold, California; one sister, Helen Coukoulis of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren, Patsy, Joseph, Shane, Tyler, Ashley, Nicholas and Kayla; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alexander Samaras; and one sister, Pauline Hughes. Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, College St. Location.
