Norlene Wolford

NORLENE WOLFORD – Norlene Smith Wolford, age 71, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 6, 2018, at Sanctuary Hospice, a caring and loving community in Tupelo, MS.  Family, friends, & others whose lives Norlene touched are invited to a memorial service that will be Friday, November 9, 2018, at 2:30 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Anne Harris and Rev. Walton Jones officiating.  The interment of the cremains will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory College St. location is in charge of arrangements.

Norlene was born September 29, 1947, in Columbus, MS, to the late S. A. “Billy” and Frances Walters Smith, Jr.  She attended S. D. Lee High School in Columbus and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection of Starkville, MS.  She was a life member of Junior Auxiliary of Columbus and served on the State Board.  Norlene was also a member of the Northwood Garden Club, and ECA member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, as well as past president of ECA and served on the board of the Columbus Humane Society.  Norlene was not only a loving mother and grandmother, she was also an avid animal lover.  She loved bird watching and playing golf with her friend, Betty Burnett.  In addition to her parents, Norlene was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Lesli Morris Wolford, grandchildren, Thomas Foxworth Wolford, IV, and Robert Price Wolford, and grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. C. W. Walters of Caledonia, MS, and Mr. & Mrs. S. A. Smith of Columbus, MS.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas “Bubba” Foxworth Wolford, III, and Robert “Bob” Anderson Wolford and his wife Anne, Thomas Foxworth Wolford, Jr., father of Bubba & Bob, brother, S. A. “Billy” Smith, III, and his wife Leslie, and grandchildren, Smith O’Neal Wolford, Robert Anderson Wolford, Jr., Virginia Ann Wolford, and Frances Marie Wolford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Sharp, Howard Sharp, Todd Gayle, Web Gholson, Van Miles, Porter Miles, Roy Miles, Lane Harper, Dr. James Woodard, Richard Hewlett, J. C. Patton, Wayne Beard, and Buzz Soule.
