He leaves behind a large extended family and many loving friends. He is survived by his son Bradley Hunter McMillen of Columbus, MS and recent transplant to Brevard, NC; his parents Bobby and LaNelle McMillen of Columbus, his brother-in-law and sister Bill and Lynne McMillen Rosamond of Columbus, brother-in-law and sister Clay and Lisa McMillen Sykes of Brevard, NC; his brother Robert McMillen of Dallas, TX; nieces and nephews Rachel McMillen Gott and her husband Daniel of Nashville, TN; Morgan Sykes of New York, NY; Jordan Sykes of Bozeman , MT; Jacob Sykes of Brevard, NC , and Julia Rosamond of Columbus, MS.
Brad graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mississippi State University. He worked in the building supply industry in Columbus before relocating to Brevard, NC in 2012, where he ran the family farm raising Red Angus cattle. While maintaining his connection to the farm, he most recently worked at Renaissance Glass in Ashville, NC, where he was valued for his commitment to both the job itself and also to his co-workers.
Brad loved bass fishing, reading good books riding mountain bikes, eating good meals with family and watching his beloved Mississippi State Bulldogs. More than anything though, the light of Brad’s life was the love he had for his son, Hunter. Perhaps what he enjoyed the most was witnessing the first rays of sunlight rise over the mountain and illuminate his Red Angus cows out on the family farm. He always helped others, was a man of action – never sitting still but always in constant motion engaged in some productive activity (often for other people). Brad never asked anything of those around him. Brad was a deep thinker; a loving, gentle, and kind man. He will be missed more than words can express.
Memorials may be made to The Last House on the Block, P.O. Box 304, Columbus, MS 39703.
